[K3CAL] Battery Inverter Generator Recommendations

I think the West Mountain Radio power gate can be programmed to charge either lead acid or Li-Ion batteries. Important since Li chemistry needs a charger designed for that application.

Typical sine wave inverter is about 90% efficient. 95% tops.

A linear power supply typically has a 30% to 60% efficiency depending on load. Astron quotes 77% for their linear supplies which kinda surprised me. Switching power supplies are much like inverters ....90% to 95% efficient.

Although running an amateur station off of a 12 volt power supply, connected to an inverter, connected to a battery, just doesn't make sense to me. Too many conversion from AC to DC to AC back to DC. Seems like a lot of loss to me.

It's nice because, the 70 amp power supply runs the rigs. When commercial power drops out, the batteries instantly take over. I have been in the middle of on air transmissions when the commercial power dropped out and no one even noticed.

So, I'll need both a 12 VDC backup source and an inverted AC power source to keep the station up and running in it's current configuration. I'm considering connecting a bioenneo battery with a power gate to the currently in use 70 amp 12 volt power supply. I would then also have to connect an inverter to provide back up power to the battery as well in order to power the AC powered gear.
