SVRLWX The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... The central District of Columbia... South central Anne Arundel County in central Maryland... Northwestern Calvert County in southern Maryland... Prince Georges County in central Maryland... Northeastern Charles County in southern Maryland... Eastern Arlington County in northern Virginia... Southeastern Fairfax County in northern Virginia... The northeastern City of Alexandria in northern Virginia... * Until 915 PM EDT. * At 832 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Fort Hunt, moving east at 35 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles. * Locations impacted include... Arlington, Alexandria, Waldorf, Clinton, Fort Washington, Fort Hunt, Forestville, Largo, Coral Hills, National Harbor, Upper Marlboro, Nationals Park, Gallaudet University, Reagan National Airport, Rosslyn, Crystal City, RFK Stadium, Andrews Air Force Base, Howard University, and Camp Springs.

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM EDT for District of Columbia...central and southern Maryland...and northern Virginia.
