Hey folks. Please take a look at the email below. If anyone is available, please try to check in via repeater and a simplex frequency. Would help with evaluating our county to county simplex coverage.

Thanks

Andy

Andy...

Fyi

A bit late to organize any Calvert role but perhaps some folks could monitor/check-in and also test simplex coverage. Still in NY but should be back this evening.

Subject: April 13th ARES/RACES Field Exercise

Greeting ARES/RACES Team!

            For our exercise on Saturday, I thought we would try to have a little fun. The real goal is to checkout our gear and better understand propagation throughout the county.

Here is the scenario:

April 13th is Saint Mary’s County Founder’s Day. To celebrate there will be events all around the county, starting off with a bicycle race that has several smaller routes. Due to the distances and expected turnout, we have been asked to provide communication support along the route so participants can contact the event coordinators and Emergency Services personnel if they need assistance.

Timeline:

            Initial Callout – 0900

            Stations Online – by 0930

            Event Completion – around 1100

The following are the stations we have been asked to staff and those who have volunteered so far:

*	Alternate EOC COMM Room (“Bunker”) – Chris (KB2SKP)
*	Leonardtown High School – Brad (KC3RWE)
*	Great Mills High School – Neil (AC3CU)
*	Chopticon High School – Jim (KB1YZ)
*	Hollywood VFD –
*	Second District VFD {Valley Lee} – John (AC3FE)
*	Ridge VFD –

As the event progresses, we may be called upon to shift positions and I fully expect we will have to establish relay stations, but that is the point.

Our primary net will be on the 147.390 Repeater. For North County coverage we may establish a secondary net on the 147.195 Repeater and for the South end of the county we may setup on the 146.640 Repeater. For Simplex operations in the North we will use 146.540 and for the South we will use 146.550. I would also like to have as many stations as capable to beacon, at least once, via APRS, when they are on station so we can map out where our operators are.

Expected reports will be initial check-in stating operating capability (VHF/UHF/HF, Voice, APRS, WINLINK). Subsequent messages may be ad-libbed but must be preceded by “Exercise”.

At the completion of the exercise, I would like to gather the team together for a quick de-brief and maybe a bite to eat; we can decide later. If we are able to access the Alternate EOC COMM Room, I would be happy to show you all the gear we have already setup and discuss future plans.

All members are encouraged to participate in whichever capacity you can. Operators from home can act as relay stations, mobile units can report on road conditions, and portable units can report on events in the “crowd”.

If you are able to participate and I have not identified you already, please let me know!

Let’s have some fun!

73,

Chris
