CARA Members,

The County and their contractor, Motorola, have given Calvert RACES/ARES permission to salvage any usable material from the old tower shelters at Dunkirk, Mt Hope, Barstow, Island Creek and Lusby.

All the radio gear has already been removed by Motorola. What remains are racks of various sizes (I'd estimate about 35 to 40), and lots and lots of wire, ranging from hardline jumpers with N or DIN connectors, to double shielded coax like RG-400 and RG-142, Ethernet cable and #10 or larger green insulated grounding/bonding wires. Also Polyphasers (may or may not be in the frequency range of amateur radio bands) and miscellaneous hardware.

If any of this is useful to you, please let us know by signing up for a work party. We would like to set up some work parties to remove what we can, probably on weekends. We have a month or two to accomplish the task. Not everything needs removed by us...just items that can be re-purposed to support RACES/ARES efforts.

Asking for a small donation for removed items. All donations will go towards the CARA repeaters which are an integral part of the RACES/ARES infrastructure for Calvert.

The link below contains videos I made recently at each shelter (expect Mt Hope). I apologize for the quality of the videos. Some are upside down and some sideways. That's what happens when I use an IPAD Mini and don't know what I'm doing. But they should give you an idea of what's there.
