Sometime shortly after 3 PM. Listen for WB6NCO

We are touring the low power commercial FM station WMJC-LP at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Prince Frederick, at 1 PM. I don’t control that part of the agenda, so I am giving you my estimate.

After the tour, we will be relocating to St. Nicholas Lutheran in Huntingtown to discuss the other requirements and options.

One of those options is to make about a 5 minute contact via amateur radio.

I will be bringing my handi-talkie and can hopefully access the K3CAL repeater with it. If not, I will use my 50 watt mobile rig.

I just received a call from Susan Vilcheck, one of the leaders of Scouts BSA
Troop 314 (yes, Pi) who meet at St. Nicholas Lutheran Church on Plum Point
Road in Huntingtown (across from Huntingtown Middle School).

She has some young ladies interested in getting their Radio Merit badges. I
am a registered counselor for this Merit Badge and willing to coordinate
this training.

I was wondering if any of us might be able to spare a couple of hours in the
afternoon of Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (29 May) to do a short
demonstration for the Amateur radio section of this badge?

I was thinking of a mobile radio (and walkies) for VHF/UHF and repeaters
and a small HF setup with an NVIS or dipole antenna for 20 meters.

I would also need someone to be the 'home' station that the girls could talk
to, either through the CARA repeater or direct. This way I could guarantee
at least one contact.

If anyone has contacts at any of the local commercial radio stations in
Calvert, organizing a studio tour might also be a plus.

It's been a long time since I acted as a counselor for this Merit Badge, but
am willing to lead the effort if any at CARA are interested.

What do you think?

Good morning Ed,
After reading your email, I remembered that Les Silva, kh6cuj had done lots of work with the Scouts. Thought he may be interested and forwarded your email to him, he replied that had not done any scout work lately but was interested.
I said I would contact you on this. Les? email address is kh6cuj at comcast.net <mailto:kh6cuj at comcast.net> .
Not sure if I will be available on ?M-day? weekend, but if I get free I will contact you.
Good wishes for your venue, would be great to get some youngsters interested in amateur radio. 73.

Sent from my iPad,
Best Regards,
Jim Tetlow
