Hello everyone, you may or may not have heard the news from Comcast- xfinity; or just rumors as to a data cap.
Comcast has published its new data cap as of 1 Jan. 2021 to 1.2TB per month, and a $10 per 50gb surcharge for all overages to a $100 limit. (500gb). Does the $100 max mean you may use more without additional charge or your cut off till the following month?
This is now for all plans except for the “unlimited” data plans, which there was not any unless you had a business plan, or the Pro plans ($$$$$$) or some of the high tier triple play plans.
Don’t be confused if you have internet and voice (phone)with unlimited data; that unlimited is for voice data only (even though it is on internet) not streaming internet data.
Since people cut the cable on TV and started free streaming they had to recoup loss of revenue. Thus all internet accounts when from unlimited to 1.2TB.
With people working from home, using web based broadcasting video/audio, and net streaming shows, live tv, movies it is very easy to use up 1.2TB in 2 weeks!
Don’t get upset....they put an offer out to modify your current internet plan to unlimited at $0 an month for 5 months and then $14 a month extra to your existing plan, after 1/31/21 it will be a $30 a month adder to unlimited.
Catch is you need the newest Comcast modem (they will send to you free, and free ship of old one back). Same charge as your existing modem rental. If you own your own modem this won’t work for you; you have to get the plan that includes a Comcast modem with rental so total will be about $30 a month plus taxes and fees.
You may install yourself (best way) or pay $100 for them to install, when ever.
I tried to do this on the website in my account....wouldn't work, and no reason given.
Could not do via chat, had to call customer service 1 800 xfinity and there they found my modem was the latest model; even though the website stated it was.
Hope this helped with fellow cable cutters, or those thinking about it.
Oh bye the way, increasing your data plan speed, i.e. up to 300mbs, 600mbs 1tbs, does not give you unlimited data, only faster transfer download. (Still somewhat slower upload).
By cycle,
