As an alternative, see if you can find a pdf print driver and 'print 
out' the file.  In the past, Adobe hosted the driver on their website.  
(It comes as part of Libreoffice, so I did not need to add the extra driver.

The print driver approach has the major advantage that any program that 
uses the operating system provided print mechanism can create pdf 
files.  (It shows up as another printer on the print menu.)
