June 4, 2020 CARA Meeting Minutes Board Minutes

CARA Board Meeting was held at 6:30 PM by Zoom internetapplication due to Corona virus restrictions. 

Attending:

Field Day plans discussed. 

PortaPotty will be rented by Bill for$122 for the weekend.  Clorox wipes andsanitizers will be used for virus control. 

Dave Hardy will bring a gas grillefor cooking.

Antennae:  Bill has HF dipole. Dave H has hamstick andHF dipole.  Dave W will loan CarolinaWindom.

Software:  Will use W3JFP Field Day Loggingprogram.  Need to get updates andcoordinate computers

Attending Field Day:  Dave KB3RAN, Dick W3RBR, Bill N3XMZ, AndyWA4BRX (from home), Danny WW3N, Shawn N3AE briefly


 
Stanley Harris, Calvert County Coordinator reports that thedual band antenna is being installed on the courthouse and the tower antennaewill be installed soon.  (Aug- Oct timeframe)

Field Day Meeting

Called to order at 7:34 by Bill by Zoom due to coronavirusrestrictions.


 
Courthouse antenna report: Installation soon followed by tower antenna installation this fall.

Field Day Plans:

PortaPotty will be rented for the weekend with sanitizingmaterials available.

Dave H will bring grill for cooking hot dogs andhamburgers.  Steaks???

Dave H will call Doris at Harriet Brown to get access to MtHope for retrieving supplies and materials like antennas, computers, coax andstring line.

Field Day will us N3JFP Field Day Logging Software.  Need to update software prior to FD and linkcomputers into network on site.

Dave H will provide Sat dinner: hot dogs, hamburgers andfixin’s.  Miriam Ratcliffe will makebreakfast casserole. Attendees are encouraged to bring snacks and drinks.

Discussion of ARRL rules changes for this year’s FDunclear.  Dave H will research and reporton the rules changes.  It appearsoperators may stay home, make contacts using their own callsign then add theircontacts to the clubs for club points. And home stations may contact other home stations this year. 

Chuck Shefflette AA3CS will be moving away in 2 weeks.  We will miss his presence and his technicalknowledge a lot.  A discussion of ourneed for new cans will be held at our next meeting.  We most likely need a new isolator/circulatorfor about $2000.  Some technical detailswere discussed at this time about rejection characteristics and dB losses.  We will need a notch filter also.

Bob Sheskin reports on DMR repeater at Mechanicsville beingoperational and can we install one at Mt Hope to give DMR coverage to southernMaryland.  He will contact MD DNR for useof their unused antenna.  There is a SMDtalk group.

Gene Talley N3NO has offered use of his 147.195 repeater inHollywood for our clubs use.  We will tryto use it on our next Monday night net.  Secretary to send notice to reflector, website and FaceBook.
