>From the Calvert Recorder.  We were discussing county buildings as an alternative to a tower mounted antenna for the PF repeater.  There are still a lot of county decisions to be made.

Calvert County’s commissioners held their second work session of the year to review possible sites for a new county administration building to mitigate the government’s space challenges. No decisions were made.Staff proposed four solutions, to include Armory Square, the Watson property, north of County Services Plaza and the Courthouse Annex, which provided multiple variations not discussed before. Deputy County Administrator Wilson Parran said those currently in the annex would be displaced when construction on the locale takes place.“My thought process is demolish [the annex] and be able to get in some type of commercial,” Commissioners’ President Thomas “Tim” Hutchins (R) said, looking to reinvigorate the Old Town District. There were multiple conditions taken into consideration for the county’s path forward in choosing a locale: The county owns all sites under consideration, costly leasing of space is not a viable long-term solution, and the space solution will be a multi-year/multi-phase process. The county has said it needs to build the administration building, renovate the County Services Plaza, build a permanent Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center, relocate the sheriff’s office, highway maintenance, parks and recreation and emergency services staff, and renovate the detention center.Parran said there are four streams of work. One is to build the county administration building at Armory Square, renovate the County Services Plaza on Main Street and relocate the sheriff’s office from Calvert House to the County Services Plaza.Discussions over using the Watson property instead of Armory Square for the county office building prompted concern over state Program Open Space funds used to acquire the property for its intended purpose as a recreation facility.Stream 2 is to build the permanent Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center, relocate parks and recreation staff to that center, and relocate highway maintenance to the now interim HEB Community Center.Stream 3 includes relocation of emergency management from the courthouse to a building to be determined. Stream 4 is the renovation and replacement of the detention center.
