Steve,
Tracked down the problem. Thanks, your article got me pointed in the right direction for a solution. Summary below.
My home network has two routers, one supplied by Comcast and a second Apple Airport backup harddrive and wireless router. Both were attempting to perform network address translation (NAT). (as I come to find out a no-no. ) Putting the apple router into “Bridge Mode” resolved the conflict. With that solved the flex radio’s network software then successfully automatically created the ability to open/identify a port (called Port Forward) on my network so the radio can accept an outside connection from the internet. Flex takes advantage of a feature in routers/firewalls called UPnP (Universal Plug-n-Play). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play
Looking for an easy explanation of what is Port Forward? Read: https://portforward.com/help/portforwarding.htm
