Hi! Just an update after the discussions at last nights' CARA Meeting..
We intend to begin a 10 week Technician's License Class held at the
new Community center in Prince Frederick.
Start date would be the 22nd or 29th of March, on Wednesday
evenings, ending prior to Field Day, and a test session
so newly Licensed Amateurs could enjoy Field Day with the rest of us.
I am in the process of submitting the paperwork to reserve a room
large enough to accommodate 20 or so of us.
I looked over the Gordon West manual for the Technician License,
but have decided to go with the ARRL Technician
Manual instead... it has way more educational material and info
than the Gordon West manual.
The ARRL has a free Instructor manual online, including
Power-Points, and other applicable material to help teach
the class(all downloadable). The new Tech Manual is spiral bound to
help you go from instructional material to test
questions easier(book opens flat) and retails for less than $30.00.
There is a wealth of other material available
online to help assist the student and instructors.
I looked at the Mt Hope Radio Room bookshelf and there are no
current manuals there, all old/expired.
I went to the main Library in the shopping center and was very
pleased to see the books we purchased for the
County Library checked out and being used... good news! I plan to
get 1 of the new manuals from ARRL soon,
so we can take a look at it.
I would appreciate any comments, and suggestions, as this is all in
planning stages at the moment. I would also like
to solicit instructors and anyone wishing to help, knowing I cannot
do it alone. Please feel free to comment and e-mail
me at hempling at comcast.net (Please Not on
Reflector). I will update you'all when we get the room reserved.
