Thanks Jim.
It is a long video, but the mod made a lot of sense to me and it was not too hard to do. Not bad for one EYE.
I think the radio thought I was winking it all the time HI HI

Nice find, but I feel asleep watching. 3 minutes of info took 20 minutes to relay to user, haha! Wonder if it went faster in native language?
The Yaesu fix was to let you buy an external fan that was powered by reduced power supply (less than 12 volts to run the fan slower). The same fix for all their solid frame radios (8800, 8900, 3200 and 100); which all tend to run hot on high power.
Of course the mod to the radio is a much better fix if you are running mobile as the fan unit is as big as the radio. Giving mounting location problem, reducing 12 volt supply to recommended operating voltage, and the fan noise.
Thanks Dave, I do like this radio, too bad we don’t use them here in Calvert (C4FM that is!).

I made this mod on my Yaesu digital radio FTM 400 D. I know there are several of them floating around in Cara as we were a beta tester for Yaesu. I had to send my radio back to Yaesu. They replaced the finals. But they did not due to modification to the chassis so yesterday I did the modification. It's not too hard but you do need to know how to solder and need a drill press to make the holes. Everything is working well. Lack Afterwards and I like the airflow. If you have any questions about doing this. Call me or email me
