It should be taken off website if it isn't club function. Too bad. Could have been first exposure to newcomers. I've been several times when lunch was either cancelled or elsewhere. Les

I did ask about this over a month ago, telling the staff that we might not be there on any given Wednesday. They said it was no problem and just kept our reservation. Not much call from rooms that time of day and day of the week.

Question: As a group, should we at least as a courtesy tell the
staff at Mount Hope not to hold the room for us every Wednesday?
They may need that room for another group while it's being reserved
for CARA's lunch.

If you get this twice I apologize, just delete one or both.
It seems that we have a secret lunch group meeting going on in Calvert
County these days. For those that believe that, please pardon me, I accept
full responsibility.
Let me explain, A few years ago myself, Dennis N3QHC, and Steve N3IDX would
go to breakfast a few times a week, after Dennis started working at Sneads
breakfast was not as easy to do; thus, we started going to Lunch on
Wednesdays, his day off. Everyone was invited; by invitation on the
repeater(2 meter) as we headed to a place to eat (changed weekly). Due to
spending a long time at the table after eating, it was suggested (Dennis)
that we pick up lunch and eat at Mt Hope radio room, we could stay as long
as we wanted. People we also invited to this, via repeater, Word of mouth,
and emails.... Most were members of CARA, but not all, everyone was welcome.
We eventually ran into difficulty in using the store room at Mt Hope, CARA
was given a standing offer of a room to eat lunch in at 12:00, ( That may be
when it became official as ARAR signed for a room) everyone was still
welcome. Somehow this seemed to be a sanctioned lunch event by CARA, and
that's great. As far as I know that room and Lunch is still available to
CARA members at Mt Hope. There are some of us that (myself included) that
wish to travel around the area and take lunch in different spots, this is
Semi- Organized (half assed), also open to everyone. The emails to a lunch
location were to retired Hams in Calvert County, not a sponsored, sanctioned
CARA event. Most of the group are CARA members, the list grows each month,
because when we came up with a place, " it states invite or bring a friend".
There are some that were not included on this list, because they had told me
before they don't want to go to a restaurant for lunch, for not including
them I do APPOLOGIZE.
We do not put this out on the reflector or the CARA web site. This being the
one time only in order to reach all CARA members and end the secret lunch
society innuendo. This is not a Sanctioned or Approved activity by CARA or
any organization, was not intended to be such an activity, just a place to
meet for lunch for those interested.
Anyone that would like to get an email for this lunch group please let me
know, by email k3uga at comcast.net; by phone 410 257 5355 and leave a message,
by eyeball to eyeball contact. I will surely add you to the current list.
Anyone that would likewise be taken off the list, same procedure. Be
advised this is not official and sometimes the email is very late. We are
not sponsored by any restaurant, we don't make reservations usually, but if
we do, it's not CARA, it's the person making the reservations name.
To date we have 15 , and about 3 to 6 show up most times, very occasionally
all, spouses are invited to attend. There are no "Pissing Contests" and no
(any club) business discussed at the table. We try to move around the County
so it makes it easier for those that live North or South. The activity
includes many discussions, Ham radio stuff and gay banter; drinking is not
mandatory, although sometimes encouraged. The group is listed in my outlook
as Calvert Retired Hams Group the V-card is attached; and like I said ask
and you will be included/
Cara sponsored Lunch is still ongoing at Mt Hope, I believe, and sometimes
that is a spot that may be selected by the group to meet.
I am sorry for any confusion. Lunch was just something a few of us did to
pass the boredom of retirement, it was an original idea; which am the only
original member. I am glad that many liked the idea and wished to continue
it, but it was not conceived as a Club, ARES or RACES thing, just lunch.
PS I actually liked it much better when it was a breakfast thing, as it made
me get up in the morning and start my day!
