Another club got good press when they donated books to their local library. I plan to promote our donation as well when it happens.

Our paper puts everything behind a pay wall, so I'm including the actual text of the article as well as a screen grab from the full page.

The Rusk County Amateur Radio Club donated 11 new books to the Rusk County Library last week. The books, worth more than $250, cover a variety of topics including basic electronics, antenna designs, digital communications and amateur radio satellites.
Club President David Chenault said the the group voted last month to purchase and donate the books in order to promote electronics knowledge and skills in Rusk County.
"The fact is, radio transmitters are everywhere today," said Chenault. "They are in our pockets in the form of cell phones, on our wrists in the form of fitness trackers, inside our iPads in the form of WIFI and bluetooth cards. And the club sees this donation as a great way to make more information about electronics, especially radio electronics, available to a wider audience."
Chenault admits it is also a great way promote the hobby of "ham radio".
"My own first contact with ham radio was as a kid at my local library. I was browsing the science section, found this book on getting your license, checked it out and I was hooked!"
The club also gave the library two both large reference-style books; "The Handbook for Radio Communications" and "The Antenna Book for Radio Communications". Both volumes are published by the American Radio Relay League, the national association for amateur radio in the U.S.
Craig Roquemore, who serves as the club's vice president, said the books contain a variety of in-depth topics.
"There's so much here," said Roquemore. "There's information on building low-powered radios that can literally broadcast around the world. You can find stuff on programming microchips, turning regular WIFI routers into high-powered mesh nodes or even build an antenna that lets you talk to the international space station."
Roquemore said that learning about amateur radio, "opens to door to all kinds of career fields like engineering and computer programming." He said it also gives operators, "a chance to volunteer in the area public service, storm spotting and even emergency response."
The club also donated study guides for each of the three levels of amateur radio licensee exams required by the F.C.C. The guides cover material tested in the Technician, General and Extra level exams. After using the guides, a prospective "Ham" can contact the club for help in scheduling an official testing session.
Several club members were on hand to deliver the books while the library's assistant director, Michelle Zenor, accepted them on behalf of the library. The books can be checked out or requested at any of the library's four locations in the county.
