[K3CAL] Experimenting with 9600-baud APRS

Tom,

You're correct, ( but you COULD use FLDIGI on any band using a SSB transceiver.)

What I meant to say is using FLMSG to compose messages using the various form templates that FLMSG provides. Then send those messages via conventional 2M digital modes. I've played around with FLMSG and it's a nice way to format standard message types like ARRL and the various ICS forms.

OK, once again (or maybe still) I am officially confused.

It is my understanding that FLDIGI is used for HF SSB, not 2M packet. What am I missing, beyond the normal things like common sense, a personality, a sense of humor and intelligence?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Also, what would be a good frequency on 2m to stand up a digipeater for test purposes?

I'd be happy to try some 2M packet with anyone in range of my QTH, either good old AX-25 or FLDIGI or WINMOR (Winlink). Just need to coordinate schedules and a bit of time to get the packet gear up and running.

As Eric has pointed out, we also have the option of text messaging on APRS using the APRS digi, which I think is back in service at Mt Hope.

A 1200 baud packet network seems like a good first step.

I have a MFJ-1270 with a Kenwood TM-231 that I could put on the air as a test setup/temporary digipeater. I would want to use my own call sign, but would leave the digipeater open for any ham to use. Also, I would hope that a more permanent plan would be developed shortly after this project was stated.

Well, we've had that capability for a while with the APRS digipeater up.
I wish it had more local use...
