I meant to tell Bill about this last night but forgot.
We were talking about keyboard-to-keyboard packet radio communications
and I remembered operating on this packet radio ring over in California
a few years ago. There are twelve digipeaters setup in a ring formation
around central California. You set your unproto path to include all the
digipeaters in order around the loop starting with the closest station
to you. Using unconnected packets, anything you type goes out and gets
digipeated (repeated) along the loop. You will even likely hear your
packet come "out" the other end of the loop if you can hear two
stations.
It's a really neat way to do keyboard-to-keyboard communications and is
quite popular in the area.
If you're interested in reading more about the network you can see
what's on the web: http://www.varmintal.com/ahamp.htm.
