Jim,
Thank you for sending on the encouraging update. Les is looking great, and please pass on our best wishes for a continuing recovery.
Dave Hardy is visiting here in Maine with us, and Les is very much with us.

Hello All,
Thought I would send out one update and note of gratitude to you all. Thank you so much for the cards and emails for Les. I have been taking them to him everyday as well as been reading him all your emails. They really light up his day and keep frustration away. But you know Les. His sense of humor goes a long way and sometimes I think his various therapists are more frustrated with him than he is!!😇.
He is about finished with his first week at NRH (the acute rehab hospital here in DC) and we will hear Monday what his goal discharge date will be. For those who do not know, he has speech issues tho he can be understood easily, and phone calls will be hard for him, still some difficulty swallowing, generalized "ataxia" which is loss of balance and coordination, weakness when standing and with some muscle tasks, and left sided facial weakness. Those are the highlights, but happy to say his mind is as sharp as ever, including humor.
Therapy has been intense and it's good to see how much he is capable of doing. Some activities will still need lots of work, and home modifications will need to be made. Don't know about stairs to the bedroom yet.
Anyway, he improves some daily though it will take time and effort as he goes along. I look forward to being able to get him out of the house/hospital into the sunshine and "real" air. He does too! Again thank you All for your care and messages. They have been so welcome. I ask that family spread this update among those in Hawaii, and Sam - please spread to classmates. I just have not been able to keep up with email as I join him for the therapies and the hospital is an hour away on a good traffic day.
Blessings and gratitude from both of us,
Mary Ann
