If I am ask, how many power supplies do we need?

Since we are planning to run 5 stations, why do we need more than 6
power supplies (5 working stations plus a backup)? Or am I missing
something?

For the record, I do like the idea of "building" each station separately
and putting together the documentation along these lines.
