I think Knob Mt is inside Shenandoah National Park boundaries, so that road on the map is probably nothing more than a fire road and is probably gated.
I found two hiking guides which describe the route to the top, plus a loop back to the starting spot through the valley below, along Jeremy's Run.

This is likely to be a cold experience in Nov or Dec. When you have to use a star drill and hammer to make a hole for your tent stakes, its a bit brisk (I've done it).

I believe you can drive to the ridge top and hike along the ridge to the
summit. This wouldn't be from Steve's cabin but you could look down and wave
it it. I'm assuming that Steve's 90-minute trek was up the side of the
mountain from his place. Reading the notes of other activators I think you
can park at the top and hike 1/2 mile or so in. Or maybe I'm thinking of
another place?
