It is with a heavy heart that I pass on the news that Rick Creager, KK4GV,
became a Silent Key Monday afternoon. Rick was a long-time club member,
mentor, and outstanding ambassador for the Amateur Radio community.

You'll recall his excitement about retiring to the Pacific coast of Ecuador,
finally making the move in early March. He came into his house yesterday
shortly after noon and told Jennifer he was having chest pains. He collapsed
before they could head to the local hospital. Emergency help arrived quickly,
but there was nothing that could be done. He was 61. (more...)

Please keep Jennifer and Cody in your thoughts and prayers during this
difficult time. I'll pass along more information as it becomes available.

Godspeed Rick. You will be missed.

Rick's XYL Jennifer called me last night to tell me Rick had a heart attack
yesterday and passed away.

Rick and Jennifer had just moved to Ecuador in March and where just getting
settled in there. He was working on residency and then his permanent
Ecuadorian amateur radio license. He had just worked out getting 100 amp
service in their beach side home.

Rick had done a number of vacation style dxpeditions. He frequently activated
Assategue Island, MD, IOTA NA-139.

Rick was a gentleman, musician, amateur astronomer, past AARC president, and
past lead instructor at the AARC.

Rick lived just a few miles from me and many times we would be chasing the
same DX spot and then QSY up and chat. He was frequent on N3MB's AARC morning
net during his commute to work.

Please keep Jennifer and his son Cody in your prayers. Cody went to school
with my children and just took satellite software engineering job out in LA.
Cody was planning on two weeks vacation in a few weeks. He is going to try to
go down asap.

Jennifer asked me to wait until today to pass the word on to the whole AARC
and PVRC. I expect to get additional details about any arrangements in the
days ahead. I will pass them along. I will pass on more info when I know
more.
