Subject: [K3CAL] Yaesu 400DR

I will be bringing the Yaesu 400 radio up to the Lunch the day after tomorrow,
Wednesday. Anyone else that has a 400 is welcome to bring it up. Also any mobile
stations with APRS are welcome to attend this mini workshop (ht's, mobiles) to
test functions and to test the Yaesu's.

Next week will be for the Kenwood 700's, 710's (both a and g models). To do the
same thing.

If there are some Icom models out there, they may be included.

The following week can be the HT models all brands.

If you have done APRS messages with a TNC and radio (any) you are also welcome
to put your two cents in the pot.

We are not what one would call an APRS County, but with the resources that we
have on hand, we could very well be.

Packet texts do not require gps to exchange messages, the gps addition to the
radio does give the ability to locate the station if the station sends out a
beacon radio signal with packet coordinates on it.

Texting on phones is not lawful while driving in this area, radio texting is not
at this time, but is or may be more difficult than using a cell phone. Contact
message may be sent with beacon packet to notify recipient that you may be
contacted on a radio frequency by voice, that can be pre- programed on most
mobile units. One can also pre- program response text messages to send without
making a text on the fly.

Lots to discuss, see and do for anyone thats interested.

If response is high enough, we may be able to do some of this on a week night or
Saturday.

Respond to all, please.
