REMINDER TO ALL

Being a member of CARA I have noted some transmission irregularities
on our 2 meter repeater.

If a ham operator calls another ham operator and has a QSO they must
give their call sign every 10 minutes and at the end of the QSO.
This is covered in FCC Rules Part 97.119 (a).

It seems some people never clear out, only fade away to never make another transmission.
To fade away does not constitute a compliance with Part 97.119 (a).
It is customary to say something like KB4ABC is CLEAR, OFF and CLEAR..or something similar.
This is to let those listening that the 2 meter repeater is available for others to use and to satisfy
Part 97.119(a).

I partially don’t want to send out a reminder to our club members, but I will it it warrants.

Also, I have noted there a lot of use of CB slang being used on the 2 meter repeater.
There is no such thing in ham radio as “ON THE SIDE”. The correct terminology is
“ I’ll be listening” or “standing by”.
Another example is keying up the repeater and start yelling “ good morning
everyone, who ever is listening. Man is it cold outside.”
The correct way is, This is (your call sign) listening or (your call sign) monitoring the repeater or
(your call sign) monitoring 146.985 repeater. To yell like a bumbling idiot ( CB operator) should not
be tolerated on the 2 meter repeater. Although there is no FCC rules on this, we as ham operators
should police ourselves and keep CB bad habits out of two meters.
BTW - Your opinion is welcomed.
