Thank-you Nick for this information – it is a BIG help.  Knowing how the scouts are organized is certainly useful   We hope to assist if & where JOTA is held in the Western Shores District.  Please keep us informed if you happen to learn new information about this year’s event.

I looked to see if I could tell if the Waldorf District’s (Zekiah) fall camporee is already scheduled, but I didn’t see it on their calendar.  Waldorf is a separate district from St Mary’s and Calvert (together called Western Shores District).  All 23 districts in the region are part of the National Capitol Area Council (NCAC).  JOTA and the fall camporee can be separate events or both can be held together.  If Waldorf is holding JOTA at their fall district camporee, that’s great.  Even when they’re held together, though, the camporee usually isn’t focused on Ham Radio.  But a good JOTA can sure be a big boon to ham radio in the area.  By the way, sometimes the Council has one large camporee for all districts.

I helped with St Mary's County JOTA 2013 which was associated with an all day event with lots of activities.  Would like to see Calvert help with one here.  But will help with Charles County.

Good Morning Everyone,

 

Is there is anyone associated with the Scouts in Calvert County?  

 

Bob/KB3KOW, CHAS EC, is starting to plan for the Jamboree On The Air, JOTA, in Charles County but is asking local jurisdictions for their plans.  Normally the scouts set up their Fall Camporee on October 18-19 weekend. Part of their program is to use ham radio to contact other scouts.  

 

This event is the primary stage of planning right now.  If ham can assist with the JOTA please let Bob from CHAS know.  And I like to be kept in the loop so ‘cc’ me in, please.  Perhaps we have a few hams that like to be involved helping the scouts doing this time?  If there is no Fall Camporee in Calvert County then another option is to take the scouts to MHCC to use the equipment to make contacts from there.

 

Just a reminder to everyone, October is a busy month for us.  We have SET 2014, PRAD Parade, CF Cycle for Life events scheduled for that month. FYI > The CF Cycle for Life event occurs on Sunday, October 19, which should not be an issue if we plan according.
