[K3CAL] From ARRL CALV EC: Thanks for the Stand-by support Jun 13 2013

We escaped a major weather event yesterday and thank goodness we did.  One
of my responsibly as the ARRL Emergency Coordinator (EC) for Calvert County
is to recruit hams from local clubs to become ARES members.  We know this is
a fun and exciting hobby that we all enjoy.  However, there are times we can
help our neighbors and local government by volunteering our equipment and
ourselves.

 

Communications is a key necessity with any emergency event.  All of us
process needed resources that can help save lives and property by providing
needed communications at critical times.  Our ARRL MDC Section Manager, Jim
Cross/W3IN, said 94% of hams do not participate in ARES.  That is shameful
with the assets we can bring to the table to serve our neighbors.

 

Please consider joining Calvert ARES.  The only two requirements are; 1.
Must be a Ham and 2. Willing to participate in emergency communications and
Public Service Events such as cycle events, walks and runs.  There is no
monetary dues since we volunteer our services and equipment to help others.


 

CARA has seen a large increase in members over the past year or two.  I
would like many of these new members to consider being part of Calvert
County ARES and R.A.C.E.S group.  CARA has over a 60-year history as being a
huge supporter of ARES/RACES and would like to continue that sponsorship.
The reason we get to use the County tower at Mt. Hope for the repeater is
because we support the County when asked.  

 

I have attached two forms; one is MS Excel and the other is same form in PDF
format.  Please consider your communication skills and support us in
emergency comms and Field Service events.  You can give me the filled in
form back at CARA General Meeting, via U.S. Mail, or electronically.
