So David Weaver (W3PQS) loaned me a really nice starter setup, including a 10 meter dipole. With the power supply that Bob (N3PPH) is loaning me tonight at the meeting, I can be on 10 meters tonight!
Needless to say, I'm excited out of my mind right now. But, I have to get that dipole up before the meeting so that I can come home, plug in, and start calling cq. I don't have a lot of trees near my house, just two. And the sizes of the trees and their proximity don't really make them ideal to stretch a dipole between them. However, the tree closest to my house is about 18 feet away, which is about perfect.
The reason for the email is to tell you all my plan and get the feedback of your experience. My plan is to screw in a heavy duty eye bolt into the corner of my house outside my upstairs bathroom window. Then I can secure one side of the dipole to the hook using the rope that's a already attached to it. Then downstairs I'll secure the rope on the other end of the dipole to some fishing line attached to a tennis ball and chuck that bad boy over the branch that's pretty much level with the bathroom window and pull the dipole taut.
I know the 20 ish feet of height on this antenna is not ideal but unfortunately it's about the best I can do right now. The directions for radiation will be NW/SW so with 100 watts ssb I should be able to hit Michigan and Canada and maybe even get Florida.
What do you guys think? Any "oh my god, don't do that" thoughts?
