I hope everyone is having an enjoyable holiday season. Our first meeting of the new year will be January 2nd, just over a week away. I will need to staff some committees so I am asking for all to consider participating. If you can not make the January meeting and would like to join a committee send me an email directly at bob at n3pph.com and I will add you. You can participate in as many committees as you want. Below is a list of committees and a brief description of their goals.
Nominating committee: This is required by the By-Laws and has the sole duty of providing nominees for office by October 1st. This means the September meeting. There are 3 members of this committee.
Repeater committee: This is also required by the By-Laws and is for making decisions about the repeater and it’s maintenance, you do not have to know how to work on it to be a member. There are 5 members of this committee.
Audit committee: This is a three member committee but will not need staffing until the November meeting.
Communications committee: This is a new committee that will be tasked with getting CARA more communications activities. We have been doing a very limited number of these are are hoping to expand to more events. This will also involve planning meeting a pre-event organization to try and make these events run as smooth as possible. You are not required to be a member of ARES or RACES to join this committee. Dennis N3QHC will chair this committee.
Operating Events and Projects committee: This committee will be for our regular events, Field Day, QSO Party, Lighthouse, Foxhunts etc. New/ additional events may also be approached. Along with this they will work to find club projects, we built tape measure beams and tennis ball cannons this year.
Public Relations/ Fund Raising Committee: This committee will be tasked with getting our name out and more visibility for ham radio in Calvert County. They will also be using our 501(c)3 status to help raise revenue for our operating expenses. Dave W3PQS will chair this committee.
Education committee: This committee will determine the materials used for our licensing classes and scheduling for the classes.
CARA is a member driven association, if you would like to see some aspect of our hobby approached by all means bring it up. We have a very diverse group of members and most every aspect of the hobby is covered by one or more of us. I plan on have more guest speakers this year and have already begun scheduling them. I hope we will all have a very enjoyable year in ham radio.
