Since this came across the reflector I feel compelled to add some clarification.
The corporation IS fifty plus members of the Calvert Amateur Radio Association (CARA)
CARA is a collection of individuals who volunteer to pay money to be a member.
CARA (at the wish of the majority) uses that money to purchase and maintain
equipment and fund events.
A lot of this equipment and events (at the wish of the majority) is geared towards
the use and training for emergency communications.
The reality is: It is the majority of CARA members that decides what CARA does.
"At the moment" the "majority" of the CARA membership agree
to support RACES and ARES
At the wish of this majority CARA has purchased and maintains and has installed
on county property a repeater that can be used by RACES when needed.
Through RACES Calvert County has permitted CARA to install this repeater in a
tower space controlled by Calvert County to better serve RACES.
.
The agreement being that CARA can use the tower if Calvert County RACES can use
the repeater and CARA members in a time of need.
IF the majority of CARA wants to, no longer support RACES and move the repeater to
a hollow trunk of a Cyprus tree off of Broom's Island Road with an antenna on a 8 foot
fence post ... THEN that is what will happen to the repeater.
IT IS CARA equipment and ONLY the MAJORITY of CARA members decides
what to do with it.
It is that simple.
AT the moment CARA members have indicated their support for RACES and it will
remain that way until the majority of CARA no longer wants to support RACES.
If there is a legitimate concern that CARA members may act in a way that threatens
RACES ability to serve Calvert County, then I would suggest that RACES and ARES
support and foster those CARA members who are extremely interested in RACES
and ARES. This will ensure that their CARA vote will ALWAYS support RACES and
ARES.
For the record, I will NEVER support any organization of CARA that allows a single
individual to control the actions, operations, or assets, against the will of the majority of
the CARA membership !

As long as the CARA Incorporated is occupying County
property, Calvert
County Mt Hope room and tower space, the Corporation should
really insist the
R.A.C.E.S Officer as part of it’s
makeup with special
voting rights controlling Corporation Operations. The
Corporation is
foolish to think it has all control when in reality it does
not.
Therefore, the RO needs to have the type of vote to stop the
Corporation from
doing an action(s) than is contrary to the County’s needs
for emergency
communications. This is why they are letting us occupy
their
property.
Let’s be real and change whatever needs to be changed
to reflect the
reality we are in and not something else. The RO MUST
have authority in
what is done with equipment and operations of the
Corporation, some of which
property belongs to the County. If the RO does not
have the authority to
trump operational decisions made by the Corporation then
conflict between the
County & the Corporation could occur & cause
nightmares. A situation we
do not want to happen.
Hence, making the RO having authoritative power over
the Corporation’s
decisions related to Operations and not Financial would not
allow County vs.
Corporation issues to grow into major conflict & be
legit for both
parties.

Hi, George,
Our constitutional committee considered alternating
terms, but because it
would require 2-year terms of office, it was not
adopted. It does have
good preservation of experience, though.
Even though the current officers have done an excellent
job, I hope we have
some folks step up and "throw their hat in the
ring". (OR volunteer for
committee positions!)

How about staggering the terms of the various
