Hello All
There are several events coming up fast that ARES has been requested to provide communications support. With the recent investment that Calvert County has made with the 146.985 repeater coax, these events would be an opportunity to demonstrate and
test the repeaters effectiveness. All amateurs are welcomed. You do not need to be an ARES member to participate.
October 6th -- SET (Simulated Emergency Test) - SEE INFORMATION BELOW
October 7th -- Patuxent River appreciation day parade - SEE INFORMATION BELOW
If you are able to support either one or both of these events please contact directly Brian KB3WFV as soon as possible at kb3wfv at yahoo.com
Thanks
Brian

October 6th Saturday 9:00AM to 10:AM
SET (Simulated Emergency Test)
Normally a large scale drill with elaborate scenarios, This year Calvert ARES SET will be a simple test of communication coverage of Calvert County using both the repeater and the Simplex frequency.
Objective:
1.) To communicate via the 146.985 repeater from Solomons Island to Upper Marlboro.
2.) To test repeaters ability to receive stations that are transmitting on low power.
3.) To communicate via the 146.580 Simplex from Solomons Island to Upper Marlboro.
Areas to be covered:
The following areas need to be covered. They can be covered by a mobile on site or from a nearby home station except for the CESC and the EOC which need to be covered on site. There is NO need for setting up antenna systems (tri-pods, generators etc) just a simple mobile on site will work for this test.
1.) Solomons Island Urgent Care
2.) Drum Point CESC (Community Emergency Service Center)
3.) Calvert County EOC (Emergency Operation Center) - N3XMZ
4.) Mount Hope repeater site
5.) Dunkirk Urgent Care - N3QHC
6.) Upper Marlboro - KB3WFV
Other areas are welcome to participate. You do not need to be an ARES member to participate. If you can cover any of the above areas or would like to add your area to the list please contact Brian KB3WFV directly at kb3wfv at yahoo.com as soon as possible
October 7th 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM
Calvert ARES has been asked to provide communication support for the Patuxent River Appreciation Day Parade (PRAD) held
Sunday, October 7. The route of the PRAD Parade along Solomon's Island
Road between about the Pier Restaurant and the Calvert Marine Museum.
Key locations are the Staging and Reviewing Areas.
Number of operators needed:
The number of operators needed to support this event effectively is six (6). This allows for two man teams, one radio operator and one message handler and for extra operators to be available to fill in for those who need a break.
Objective:
To pass messages from the parade organizer to a parade representative providing the parade announcer with any updates or changes to the parade.
The parade organizers have asked for communication to be available from 12:30 PM until approximately 3:00 PM. Plan on being on site from 11:30 AM until 4 PM.
Equipment needed:
The parade route is relatively short (only about one (1) mile) and should be able to be covered by use of the 146.580 simplex frequency using HT's.
All amateurs are welcome to participate. You do not need
to be an ARES member to participate. If you can support this event contact Brian
