Thanks, no fault what I did was put it on the radio without the tuner to see
if there was any output at all. Did see about 15-18 watts with the antenna
load, should have looked at the book but I didn't book spec. which is AM 25
watts. So it was ok since I think the swr was around 2:1 on 10 meters and I
don't know what the freq range for the meter was. Too much pressure getting
on air and thought the radio was not performing well enough to contest.

That's why I told Peter not to worry until I could check it out at home
under normal conditions with equipment I am familiar with. Through it on the
table this morning and put the Bird meter and dummy load on it. Checked the
AM and it came out 22 watts on all bands. Put on an antenna and came out at
90 watts on usb.

Guess I just wasn't patient enough when I first started since I wasn't
making any contacts. I called Peter this morning before I sent out the
email, he was pretty worried that someone did something wrong. He told me
that John McCall was out in Denver because his daughter was not doing very
well and may not be here much longer. I think he said it was over 100
degrees in Denver.

Same old thing for Field Day bring too much of things you don't need and not
enough of the things you do need.

Next year I think I'll just bring myself and come food.

Best Regards,

Jim

The power meter I let you use was supposed to go between the radio and the
tuner not to the antenna that was my mistake. The SWR was hi because we were
on the wrong side of the tuner. So that made the power and the SWR readings
incorrect. I should have caught that right away that was my fault sorry
everybody.

I want to apologize to Peter Holt kb3sxb, and the Drum Point POA CERT group
in thinking my radio that had been on loan to them this past year was
damaged.

During Field Day setup operations it appeared that the radio was not putting
out power.

My first indication was good receive but lack of any contact. Checking the
power output from the radio on a meter resulted in what appeared to be a
very low

output; I mistakenly concluded that the finals were soft and this wasn't
going to work for our 4A status.

I was however able to properly test the radio output this morning with a
Bird Meter and dummy load; I am happy to report that the radio is fine on
all bands.
