Wow, a lot of good input for this event

It is really cool to see CARA members get involved

Bob, Ron, Peter, Bob, Wayne,Shawn look for replies to your emails below.

Below are individual responses to those that emailed replies through the reflector.
I decided to send one email reply to save on cluttering up the reflector - so once again another long email
To those that emailed me directly I have responded to you directly.
I hope this will answer all of your comments

Bob - N3PPH - QSL CARDS
At the moment, those who request a QSL card for this special event should send a SASE and a donation of one US dollar to CARA. This is similar to the "13 colonies special event" "The Tallships" and the "Indy Motor Speedway" or any other special event.
When making QSO's at the lighthouse event simply say "see the K3CAL QRZ page for QSL information". The K3CAL QRZ page has been updated as of tonight 8/15/12. Here is a link to the current QRZ listing for K3CAL - http://www.qrz.com/db/K3CAL/?1345083228
The thought process behind this is to cover the cost of printing and mailing the cards.
The current plan is that a CARA member will be printing these cards on his personal computer. The ink and the paper cost money. Any monies left over after the cost of printing is coverd will go to the association treasury.
Some say we may only get less than 100 contacts, although some clubs who have participated in this event in the past (to the extend that CARA is this year) have reported as many as 700 QSO'S ! This year there is a record number of lighthouse entrants and lots of press about the event, so who knows how many QSL cards CARA may get.
Pre-printed QSL cards can be ordered for a cost of $60.00 dollars for 300 cards or $75.00 for 500 depending on how and what is ordered.  There is nothing that prevents ordering these cards rather than beat up a members printer once we see what the logs look like and how stuffed the mail box is.
If the Board of Directors and the association members want to provide the cards at no cost to those who make QSO's with K3CAL, Then let me know NO LATER than Thursday night 8/16/12 so I can change the QRZ page.
The lighthouse budget was small to begin with and has been reduced by cost over runs on other events so there currently is NO money to cover the cost of printing QSL cards, home made or pre-printed.
Perhaps the CARA annual dues need to be raised.
Let me know Bob ..... For now a SASE and a buck gets you a Special Event QSL card from CARA for the lighthouse event.

Peter  KB3SXB - W1S Maine Lighthouse

Sounds like a blast. I wish I was there. We have the use of a house on the lighthouse property and several members plan to operate overnight. The Cove Point Lighthouse and it's surrounding structures are listed as historic and are still an active Coast Guard facility as a result all of our antenna's have to be self supporting.
Have a fun and stay safe. I will be sure to tell all of the operators here at Cove Point to listen up for W1S. Be sure to keep an ear out for K3CAL

Ron - WA4PRR - 10GHz
Very cool Ron .. It is neat that the CARA membership has such a wide variety of talent. I am sure that several members would love to check out yet another facet of the amateur radio service. Are you planning on making 10GHz calls under the K3CAL call sign for the lighthouse or is this another event ??
--- Brian KB3WFV

Bob - KF3AA - PSK and Tables
Thanks Bob for the tables and chairs. Sound like between you me and what is at the lighthouse that we should all have a place to plop our gear and plant our butts. Are you planning on making APE PSK event calls under K3CAL call sign for the lighthouse or is this another event?

Wayne - N1WR
Thanks for the details and the heads up on the table and chairs. Good to know that the property will pretty much be just CARA except for the public visitor hours. I'll make sure that everyone has their pants on and hair combed between the hours of 1 and 4 on Sat and Sun. Seems like this is going to be a really fun event and it would be cool to operate there again next year. Thanks for all of your help with the marine museum and We'll see you on Saturday morning.

Shawn - N3AE -- Logging Program
Hi Shawn -- it is a real bummer that you can not make it. Maybe next year? I knew I forgot to mention something in the email LOGGING.
Since this event is NOT a contest the only requirements for logging are
#1 QSO's are logged
#2 Those logs must be able to be exported as an ADIF file.
So any logging software meeting these requirements that the operator is comfortable using is fine. Sounds simple right ? We'll see.
There is a simple logging software called "youLOG" it is freewear and can be downloaded from http://youlog.i0dx.org/ . I know that Bob and Ron and the other Bob (sounds like a familiar TV show) all have laptops with their stations I am going to load youLOG on my laptop, So there are 4 computers. I may or may not need yours. I will try and figure that out tomorrow. Can you call me at 301-641-1674 and I will let you know

See everyone Saturday
