Brian: I just talked with Doug Alves.
There is an eight foot table and folding chairs in the cottage that is available. We can set up in the front bedroom and the main room which are both empty except for the table and chairs. Note that the main room is used as a reception area for tourists so you will have visitors coming and going in that room from 1 to 4 in the afternoon. The Keeper's Quarters has not been rented, so there is no issue with that.
I will have access to the key of the cottage and will meet you there at 8:00 Saturday to begin setup and will be able to help until around 10:00. Doug reminded me that there is no access to the beach. Also note that here will be visitors walking around so please have someone bring yellow tape to mark off any guy wires or hazardous areas. The Coast Guard Auxiliary operates radio watch from the brick building on weekends - be aware that they are mostly hams and will be interested in what we are doing. Some potential new hams and club members.
We talked a bit about next year. He is not certain what the status will be next year. I mentioned that we had talked about operating from the Drum Point Lighthouse at the museum and he said that if for any reason the Cove Point location is not available next year we could potentially use the museum location. That's a discussion for next year. I'm not certain that the Drum Point lighthouse in its re-located location qualifies under the ILLW rules.
Note to all: there is a small kitchen in the cottage with a refrigerator - I assume that it is operational. Goes without saying that we leave the facility as clean/neat as it was when we arrive. This is looking like a great operating event for CARA. Have fun!
