[K3CAL] Rules & Etiquette for CARA Repeater _FYI

Just a slight update to the history.  When W3ZNW became a silent key, we applied for a club callsign and we were assigned KB3HIC.   A license search showed that K3CAL was available so we applied for K3CAL as a club vanity callsign.

If you search for K3CAL at http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchAmateur.jsp  you can see the history.

One more piece of information about the statement “W3ZNW network policies” >>>> Woody/W3ZNW, Charter Member of CARA, was the callsign assigned to the Sunderland Repeater (CARA) for years.  Before Woody became a SK, CARA applied to the FCC for a repeater callsign.  After having a few Repeater callsigns, CARA settled for the current callsign, K3CAL.

Hello everyone,

I found the attached document on Rules & Etiquette for the Repeater today that every CARA member should know about and have a copy.

At a CARA General Meeting back in January 2002, the Membership passed this package.  There is NO ISSUE today – I was off from work and found it in my stack of CARA stuff so I thought I would share this with the Membership.

I believe we came up with this package because at the time we had a newly licensed ham & CARA member that must have thought he was the police.  He would call for help on the repeater.  When someone answered he said that he is chasing a vehicle doing 70+ MPH on Rt. 4.  Of course someone would answer his call and be obligated to call 9-1-1.  After a couple of occurrences no one would respond to his call for help because we knew it made hams look bad to the 9-1-1 center and police for such activity.  That created another issue being if he really had an emergency and no one responded.  To curtail his wanting us to call 9-1-1 we made up these rules and passed them at a CARA General Meeting.

73, Dennis/N3QHC
