Having had previous correspondence with our ARRL Section Manager Jim Cross
WI3N I sent him an email asking for some help from the ARRL in trying to
deal with our interference problem. He put me in touch with the local ARRL
interference guy, Bob Bruninga WB4APR who has loaned us a spectrum analyzer
to look at the signals affecting us. As a result I have uploaded 2 videos
for you to look at. In video 1 you see lines raising up from the bottom,
these are normal signals. You can see they come up and drop down as a smooth
line and very narrow. Each line going from left to right in the first video
represent a 5 mhz block of spectrum. At approximately 35 seconds you will
see a massive signal, very wide and very jagged, this is the fire boards
signal. That makes their signal ~10 mhz wide and very dirty. I sent this to
Bob and that is his analysis. The signal was received at Dave W3PQS's house
so it is not due to signal overload from being under the tower.
The second video shows a very strong spur from their signal, as you can see
the width of each line has been changed to 10mhz. We are taking further
reading per Bob's direction and will submit them to him. At this point Dave
and I are following his direction on obtaining the information. Bob fully
understands our position as RACES and ARES club and our desire not to harm
our relationship with the county.
As new details arise I will post them to this list, just wanted to let
everyone know we are working to resolve the repeater problems.
