[JRC] Problems wi the display

I had this Mint JST-145 which I sold to  a close friend about a year ago. This morning chatting with him the two meter band during commuting time, he claimed that during the week end , he noticed some malfunctioning on the display. He said that he opened the radio , and did some on the spot tinkering and later the display came to normal and that had not noticed anything else for the last 24 hrs.

Any comments or any hints on probable causes from you folks here?
