[JRC] Here is a serious concern

Hi Dave,

Thanks so much for the note. As little CW as I do nowadays, I still get a
kick out of sending on that great key. And to think that AES was carrying
them at $79.95, back in the late eighties!

You can see the key here:

I understand that JRC still builds the Kenwood TL-933 HF amplifier under an
OEM contract.

Cheers for now, 73,

Oh, I am so darned jealous of you Adam. I can't even offer a trade of a
Marconi 365A for a JRC KY-3B.

If you hear of anyone who has a "spare" JRC KY-3B, let me know.

Yes those JRC Radio Stations were beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

Hi Dave,

I have the honour of gracing my shack with the magnificent JRC KY-3B. It is
actually a derivative of a WW2 Japanese Imperial Navy key. I purchased it at
AES, Orlando FL, in 1989. It is as good as a Marconi Model 365 Royal Navy
key I once owned.

Rockwell-Collins is now the UK Admiralty's main HF comms supplier. Ericsson
recently acquired Marconi after a financial scandal which drove that fine
old firm into receivership. I hope they can revive the "Queen of the Seas".

I have seen several JRC-fitted wireless offices. All things of beauty!

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

I was discouraged that JRC seemed to move out of radio when Radio Officers
were eliminated on ships 31 January 1999, soon afterwards their beautiful
telegraph key - quite an option - was eliminated.

To the best of my knowledge, this was the ONLY professional quality
telegraph key EVER offered as an accessory.

And the receivers! Wow.

I had a friend who had a ship radio station that was JRC equipment. He
thought he had died and gone to heaven. Sure beat Scanti, SAILOR (Denmark),
Marconi, ITT/Mackay, Debeg and others radio stations.

To the respect of the list above - they were all excellent, but had
different strengths, the weakness of ITT/Mackay was in the quality of the WT
(Wireless Telegraphy) (a/k/a CW) signal - it wasn't as beautiful as the rest
- and they were all beautiful. If you've ever heard the modulated
continuous wave (MCW) signals from Marconi, or Sailor, or Scanti, you know
what beauty is.

I would like to say something. Just reading the
comment that Bob wrote to Dale regarding the fixing of
Dale's JRC makes me feel worried on the future of the
JRC.

I have a JST-145 working very nicely and also on mint
conditions; however, what will happen when some day it
will need to be serviced? Where would I (We) go?

A similar storyame upon the old Heath's and the Swan's
and the Drakes. Some folks just dont find service for
those rigs no more or worst than that parts for them.

I wonder if "on time" Would it be better to start
getting rid of our good machines?

Better than that I think it would be a better idea if
we all as a group start looking for service people,
places that sells parts for them or share tips on who
service the JRC.

What do you folks think

Best to all
