Hi Gil,
I assume by 'chatter' you mean the undesirable sound artifacts caused when
you try to use any of the 545's AM modes on a fading signal. I find it
helps the 545's sound output if you reduce RF gain to the point where
fading just stops.
Of course this point varies over time, so I finally wrote a program to
automate the process of finding this point and keeping the rf gain there:

Hope this helps people get better sound from the 545.
