NRD-545's with a serial number of RG 04665 and above have the latest ROM
firmware. If you have a older set, you should contact the JRC office in
your country to see about the purchase of the latest EPROM firmware
chips.=20

The eariler receivers had dreadful audio quality. If you have a serial
number above RG 04665 you should have the latest firmware.

Nothing was added just some improvements to the audio path. In the UK
about 10 sets had this issue and all were fixed by the importer, other
than that there has been no changes since its launch. Bar 3rd party mods
- which are very good :-) The 10khz or 8khz roofing filter mod is well
well well worth having. I think KIWA list is on there www page.

But with all changes and mods YMMV.
