[JRC] NRD-525 tuning range?

Hello
The manual on my NRD-525 says it tunes down to 90kHz. However, I have
discovered that mine tunes all the way down to "zero" kHz (where it hears
it's own Local Oscillator). And it's not deaf either as I can easily pick
up the RTTY station on 25kHz and other (unknown) stuff below that.

Is this normal for this receiver or has somebody done something to it to get
it to do that? Of course the fact that I have a good homebrewed tunable
preamp that goes all the way down to 10kHz helps a lot 8^)

One note: That "S" meter definitely needs a sedative ;-)

On another note. Today I cleaned some dirty controls on it. The Volume
control, BFO and PBS controls were noticably "scratchy" I pulled the
top/bottom covers and noticed it looked like a pain to get into the backside
of the controls. So I pulled the knobs and squirted some DeOxit D5 and let
it run down the shafts, working the shafts. They are noticably freer and,
more importantly quiet now. (It takes several tries to get it worked past
the shaft bushing and into the control but it does work).
