No,not hissy. The sound is muffled. This depends on a bad audio-stage. I 
use the line-out-jack connected to a good (HiFi) Amplifier.

The 525 likes really big antennas. But it's senstiv enough to work on 
smaller antennas just fine. Did you think about using a loop-antenna 
designed for LW?

Yes, the 525 has a built-in notch filter. I don't use it very often.  I 
prefer using external anlog filters for listening or feeding a soundcard 
with the audio-signal when it comes to digital signals.

For sure you'll have a lot of fun with your 525.
