[Johnson] Need information on original Ranger

    The 5V4 and   5R4 are quite different although they fit the 
same socket. The  5V4 has an indirectly heated cathode and lower 
voltage drop than directly heated rectifiers. The  5V4 is a 
medium heavy duty tube. There are a couple of military versions 
including the 5R4WGY intended for high altitude use. A 5Y3 will 
work. At one time the 5V4 was plentiful, probably not any more.
    The 1614 was, as stated below, just a selected metal 6L6, 
selected for RF performance but I don't know exactly what it was 
tested for.
