Hello, The Johnson Ranger II panel meter is basically a Simpson Model 1227 with a special order face and meter movement.. Ebay lists a lot of Simpson 1227 panel meters of various sensitivities, however the 0~1ma ( or more sensitive) with an appropriate shunt and a 16ohm series resistor ( the 16ohm series resistor is inside the meter body) seem to work just fine. The Johnson Ranger II meter face is directly interchangeable into a Simpson 1227 and the cover transplants just fine as well.
You will need to add a meter shunt ( we use a 1K Bourns Trimpot for fine adjustments) to calibrate the meter.
Downside is the meter "pointer" doesn't look like the original Johnson but chances are almost no one will notice.
We are guessing this meter replacement scheme will work with the Ranger I as well, but of course doesn't look anything like the original.
