[Johnson] NC-303 Tuning Knob

Hello
New to the list. Drove three hours yesterday to purchase this receiver. The NC-300 was my novice receiver in 1968 so you can understand the excitement during the drive.

The VFO Knob is very tight and loosening the two set scews released some tension but having difficulty taking the knob off to inspect the drive since there is a wobble when changing frequencies. Any suggestions?

Did National publish a service manual for the 303 for such procedures? Only found the manual on the BAMA site.
