[Johnson] Johnson Ranger OSC Insight?

I have yet to fully decipher the Ranger I schematic but wonder if anybody
has some insight into a Ranger I problem.  The Oscillator has an
intermittent only on 40 - 10/11 meters, it works fine on 160 - 80.  The
problem manifests itself with the meter reading no grid drive while the OSC
meter current is pegged (> 40 mA).  However the OSC works fine in the VFO
Zero position for all bands with the OSC current between 24 - 32 mA as
expected.  I would guess the problem is brought about with whatever is
switched into the drive chain between the VFO Zero mode and the operate
CW/Phone mode.  The intermittent problem seems to come and go with no
observed correlation to the operation of the Ranger.

 

The manual mentions "a simple internal wiring change permits either the VFO
alone or one or both of the 6CL6's to be energized in the VFO "ZERO"
position."  Any idea where I would find this simple wiring change? I have
both the Assembly and Operating Manuals.
