[Johnson] VIKING VALIANT II

I inherited a Valiant II from my friend who is now an SK.

The radio is in excellent condition. I've never seen such a clean
chassis. But I'm a QRP guy, so I'd like to sell the radio to someone who
would actually use it. I'd really like to check it out first so I can tell
the buyer that it works.

I brought the line voltage up slowly for the Power On test and let it cook
for a half hour with no signs of a problem. But now it's time to hit the
Transmit switch, and - short of putting the output of my variac directly
onto the HV transformer primary - I don't see how I can avoid instantly
applying the HV to the electrolytics, running the risk of a small
catastrophe. Even using this approach, I'd have to flip the Transmit
switch (S8) to activate the voltage regulator tubes V9 and V18 which would
mean unsoldering one side of the HV primary to isolate the primary.

Any suggestions?

Thanks - k9ew
