[Johnson] painting transformers

Hi all,
I am in the process of wrapping up my Valiant restoration. I am looking 
to repaint the transformers and was wondering if they get hot enough 
that I need to get a paint like one would use to paint a car engine 
block that withstands quite a bit of heat. Or, can I just use a regular 
Rust-O-Leum spray can paint since I have numerous cans of that laying 
around. I dont want to use the wrong paint and then find it stinking and 
peeling off if it doesnt withstand the transformer heat. Not trying to 
be cheap, I just have lots of black paint but not high heat type.
