well, I have finished the recapping of this critter and now attemping to open up the vfo left hand side panel. One screw I cant get a tool to, as all my screwdrivers are too long, and hit the Meter cover, so off to Sears or someplace like that for a shorter blade driver. It looks like there are 2 mounting bolts through the chassis that I need to take the nuts off too, so I can remove that panel. Is that correct? Am hoping someone else has already changed out the 18k/2w resistor, but wont know until I open it up. Another thing is that whom ever has had this rig before, has had problems with the Pi-Net fixed caps, mainly the 330pf gang on the input, and they have installed some giant military mica's in it, really looks terrible. I have seen some mention of this in past threads, but no one I have found has come up with a cure or solution. Should I stick with this mess, or try and put in the 330pf gang per schematic? Will run of the mill 330pf silver
mica caps work? The 150pf gang of fixed caps are still there on the output. This rig isnt a cherry, and I dont plan on a full restoration, as it needs paint, etc., as I just want to get it on the air at this time. I am not removing the Clipper ckt either, as will just turn the Clipper pot full CW, unless that doesnt work, then will remove the circuit. I know there are pro and cons to that circuit. I know Timron has several mods, but am passing at this time, as since being away from HI VOLTAGE for sometime, am not feeling like it is in my PayGrade to mess with. It has been a learning experience for me just replacing the caps and trying to figure out just what the heck they were doing on the AC input scheme. Smoke test to follow soon.... Cross your fingers and toes..
