The problem is that the contacts have gotten loose in the socket.
Unplug the transmitter from the AC outlet.  Then, use an Xacto knife, with a #11 blade, and insert the tip of the blade between the ceramic of the holder and the contact itself.  Twist the knife slightly.  Do the other side.
The contacts will then get tight again. Glen, K9STH

I have built these up out of unuseable crystals in HC6U style but the pins 
are not quite large enough to fit tightly in my ranger(s). I frequently have 
to reach back and put them back in the holder.
