[Johnson] 120V Accessory Socket

Those things were dirt cheap back in the 50s and not so many folks worried about a little 115 VAC. If the rear of the rig is not too crowded and some sort of strain relief is used on the cable coming away from the plug, the plug will stay connected forever. The problem is that we are now used to locking connectors with long runs of wire hanging on them and for the most part they stay connected successfully.  Amphenol had those plugs and sockets as I recall and they were used to join 300 ohm TV flatline in a simple lowloss format.  Not intended for 115 VAC. in any event. Many of us used that flatline instead of co-ax in the days of simplicity (austerity).

David,

You can easily make one up if you have an unneeded HC6/U crystal.  Just
disassemble it, drill a hole for the wires, solder in the relay leads then
reassemble it.  Glen Zook may still make these up as well.

I guess we'll never know why EF Johnson chose such a funky was of
connecting the antenna relay.

URRG!  Does anyone have a positive, non-loosening, method to  make a
connection to the 120V accessory socket (really a crystal holder)  on the
back of a Johnson transmitter that doesn't involve replacing the
socket?  If you have to replace the socket,  suggestions?

There are two possible  outcomes: if the result confirms the hypothesis,
then you've made a  measurement.
If the result is contrary to the hypothesis, then you've made  a discovery.
