Hi Bill, I've never used backing soda before so thanks for that tip!  I've cleaned up 3 knobs so far using the white non pumice GOJO and a toothbrush.  They cleaned up fabulously and look like brand new so I'll move on to the rest of the knobs.  73, Scott WA9WFA
