I don't think I did, But never say "never". It might not be the
transformer and no way to know until I go inside. The first cooked down
transformer I ever smelled was when I was a kid. The little brother made
the Lionel train go too fast and when it jumped the track he walked away
and left the thing turned on with a short across the tracks. Ooops. I
had the pleasure of smelling a few more on other occasions and this
Ranger brought back those memories

Maybe I just did something stupid when I worked on it last but I have
been using it all summer since some time in late spring. I would have
expected something stupid to show up before now. It usually does at the
official smoke test. Maybe my line voltage is too high by just a little.

Stan Reid, W8CC (now SK) was a friend of mine and when he couldn't drive
after dark any more I took him around to club meetings and swap shops,
etc. Eventually he *gave* me the Ranger as a token of appreciation.
Every time I reach for it I think of the things we did. I really can't
let the Ranger go.

Thanks to the others who pointed out the place to have the transformer
rewound. I knew about that but didn't have the address. That saves me
from having yo look it up <grin>.

73,

Bill KU8H
